Dennis Larry Coffey
( July 24, 1939 - August 6, 2024 )
Dennis “Larry” Coffey, age 85 of Smith Farm Road in Lincolnton, entered Heaven’s Glory on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at River View Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Brookshire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Larry was born July 24, 1939 in Lincoln County, NC to the late Dennis Dixon and Louise Rudisill Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 57 years, Peggy Ray Coffey, and his brother, Thomas Milton Coffey.
Larry grew up in the Southside and Laboratory communities in the area affectionately known as “Coffeytown”. He graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1957 and the Junior Accounting Course at Kings College in 1958. After college, he worked in textiles at Threads in Gastonia and Crown Converting Company in Lincolnton where he served as a supervisor in the dye house. In 1979, he was hired by The Timken Company and worked in the Heat Treating department, retiring as an A-Operator in July 2003.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was a lifelong member of River View Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, usher, Sunday school teacher, the House & Grounds ministry, and a member of the Board of Directors. He was best known for greeting worshipers and distributing bulletins each Sunday morning. He also was instrumental in constructing the Prayer Garden with his wife, Peggy.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, yard work, and tinkering of all kinds including constructing a well machine and a grandfather clock. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and his seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, David Larry Coffey and wife Robin, daughter, Kelly Caroline Coffey Washam and husband Rusty, a brother, Richard Andrew Coffey, seven grandchildren, Zachary, Summer, and Autumn Washam and Caprice, Josiah, Rhaina, and Dessa Coffey.
