Mrs. Mamie Cathleen Burgess Saunders, age 94 of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Bigham, Rev. Dale Hendricks, and Rev. Gary Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Saunders was born November 17, 1917 in Lincoln County to the late James G. and Nina Coleman Burgess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Jefferson Saunders, three brothers, five sisters, and a granddaughter, Nina Nicole Martin. She worked in textiles.
She is survived by two daughters, Nina Martin and Joanne Hamilton, both of Lincolnton; a son, Leonard M. Saunders of Stanley; one sister, Edith McCorkle of Lincolnton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
