Obituaries

Mr. John O. Gilleland, age 79 of 303 N. Oak Street in Lincolnton, died on Monday, February 13, 2012.

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Doug McClain officiating.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Gilleland was born August 5, 1932 in Iredell County to the late Ernest Blair and Mary Hux Gilleland.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Jane Howell Gilleland.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.  Mr. Gilleland retired as principal of S. Ray Lowder School.

He is survived by three sons, John O. Gilleland, Jr. and wife, Beth H. Gilleland of Lincolnton, Jeffrey William Gilleland, of Lincolnton, and Christopher David Gilleland of Mooresville; two sisters, Hannah White and Marian Gilleland, both of Statesville; three grandchildren, Meredith Gilleland Fonseca, John Gilleland, III and Amy Elizabeth Gilleland: sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Camellia and Lucky Wroniewicz  of Richmond, Va.
