Ernest Monroe Carpenter
( May 23, 1918 - April 29, 2012 )

Ernest Monroe Carpenter passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 after 93 productive years.  He was born in Lincolnton to the late Samuel and Emma Carpenter on the twenty-third of May 1918, as the second of 12 children.  He resided in Lincolnton his entire life.  He is survived by the love of his life, Beatrice Dellinger Carpenter, whom he married in July of 1944.  They devoted 68 years of life to one another and produced two children, Diane Carpenter Clippard, with husband Buck, and Gary Ernest Carpenter, with wife Donna.  Earn left a legacy of love and joy to his surviving grandchildren including Wesley Clippard, Kalebh Withers, Grant Seger, Hope Seger, Emma Seger, Clarke Seger, Nathan Seger, Samuel Carpenter, Faith Seger, Allyson Carpenter, Jane Seger, and Wade Seger.  One great, great-granddaughter, Camdyn Clippard who was added to the family in 2011.

 

Earn loved to garden and is known within the community for his amazing tomatoes, green beans, cantaloupe, cucumbers and corn.  His produce fed many at Pisgah United Methodist Church where he was an active member for the last 87 years.  He was a generous man who gave his heart to his family and friends.

 

Earn is preceded in death by two grand-children, Bryan and Kent Clippard.  Several siblings also passed including brothers Leonard, Samuel, Glenn, Jim and Jerry Carpenter, and sister Dorothy Martin.

 

Surviving siblings include Minnie Houk, Audrey Smith, Ruth Gillenwater, Bet Caldwell, and John Carpenter.

 

A special thank you to the staff at the Lincoln Brian Center for the special care they provided to Earn during the last 2 years.

 

A funeral service will be held at Pisgah United Methodist Church on Monday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m.  This will be a time to honor the life of this incredible man. Visitation will be 1:15 until 2:15 prior to the service at the church.
