Obituaries

Mr. Luther Gene Gilbert, age 83, of 131 Lakewood Avenue in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

His funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Doug McClain officiating.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 pm prior to the service at the church. 

Mr. Gilbert was born October 7, 1928 to the late Luther Guy and Callie Smith Gilbert.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Johnson Gilbert, a brother, Farrell Gilbert, two sisters, Lib Elmore and Marie Kerley, and a son, Michael Gilbert.   He served in the United States Army and then later worked as a supervisor in textiles.

He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Ewing of the home; two grandchildren, Stacy Adcock and husband Dean of Huntersville, and Jeff Ewing of Lincolnton; one great-grandson, Ethan Ewing; three sisters, Fuschia Smalls of Morganton, Ann Harris of Valdese, and Claudine Brooks of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
