Obituaries

Mr. “JW” Avery, age 81, of 557 Springs East Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 1, 2012 at 3:00pm in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Jones and Rev. Wayne Brittain officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends Friday at Warlick Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 2:30pm prior to the service.

Mr. Avery was a native of Lincoln County, born on May 5, 1931. He was the son of the late William and Floy Schronce Avery. Mr. Avery was the owner of Cherryville Metal Company before retiring.

Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Betty Hughes Avery; four sons, John Avery and wife Kathy of Advance N.C. , David Avery and friend Shelia of Lincolnton, Michael Avery and wife Karen of Providence Forge Va., Steve Avery and wife Shelia of Lincolnton; one daughter, Linda Garner and husband Tim of Lincolnton; one brother, Don Avery and wife Ethel of Lincolnton; two sisters, Sue Killian and Jean Black of Cherryville;  twelve grandchildren; fourteen great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
