Obituaries

Mr. James Franklin Melton, age 78, of 223 E. Congress Street in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, September 2, 2012. 

A memorial service will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Shelby.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Melton was born January 30, 1934 in Grover, SC to the late Oscar and Ruth Hambright Melton.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn McSwain Melton.  He was a 20-year Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot and then later as Director of Mental Health for Lincoln County. 

He is survived by a son, David Melton and wife Darla of Lincolnton; a daughter, Ann DeShazo and husband Charles of Charlotte; and one grandson, Charles James DeShazo.
