Dorothy "Dot" Goodson Keener
( November 11, 1925 - November 10, 2012 )

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Goodson Keener, age 86, of 133 Buffalo Shoals Road, Lincolnton died Saturday, November 10, 2012.

 

A native of Lincoln County, Dot was born on November 11, 1925 in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late Frank Richard and Murlee Broome Goodson.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Doyt Keener.

 

Dot was a loving and devoted person to family and friends.  She retired from J.P. Stevens as a cloth inspector.  She was a lifelong member of Boger City United Methodist Church where she was extremely active and served on various committees.  For 25 years Dot enjoyed delivering “Meals on Wheels.”  She had many outside interests including cooking, sewing, making handmade quilts, and needlepoint making each immediate family member a personalized Christmas stocking.

 

Dot is survived by her son, Jack Keener and wife MaxAnne Barnette Keener of Lincolnton; one daughter, Jill Keener Kiser and husband William Edward Kiser, II also of Lincolnton.  She is also survived by five grandchildren who were the light of her life.  They are Alex Harrison Keener of Lincolnton, Christopher Paul Keener and wife Abby Steele Keener of Greenville, SC, Sarah Keener Putnam and husband, James Russell Putnam, Sr. of Dallas, NC, Jenny Kiser Brogden and husband, Christopher Scott Brogden of Lincolnton, and William Edward Kiser, III and wife Lawson Kelly Kiser, also of Lincolnton.  Dot’s seven great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.  They are James Russell Putnam, Jr., Catherine Anne Putnam, Dorothy (Dottie) Brooke Keener, Luke Christopher Brogden, Miller Scott Brogden, William Cole Kiser and Preston Hayes Kiser.  Dot is survived by her sister, Peggy Goodson Mode of Lincolnton, her brother, Frank Terry Goodson and wife, Edith Goodson of Wingate; three sister-in-laws, Louise Keener Burris of Maiden, NC, Shirley Keener Rice of Charlotte, NC, and Gwen Burke Goodson of Lincolnton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Heartfelt appreciations go to the staff of Cardinal Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Lincolnton as their concern and care to Dot was amazing during her time as a resident.

 

“A Celebration and Remembrance for the Life of Dorothy “Dot” Goodson Keener” will be held at Boger City United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 with Rev. Allen Van Meter and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating,  The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, NC from 7:00 until 8:30 pm on Monday.  Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton, NC.
