Obituaries

James Edward Gibson, age 80, of 1995 Gastonia Highway, Lincolnton died Sunday, November 11, 2012.

His funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Leland Stephenson and Rev. Andy Raines officiating. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church.

Mr. Gibson was born on March 28, 1932 and was the son of the late James Harvey and Mary Louise Ball Gibson.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dan Gibson.  He was a retired auditor with Howard Johnsons/Days Inn in Gastonia and later worked at H and R Block. Mr. Gibson was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, Ruth W. Gibson of the home; mother, Louise Gibson of Kingsport, TN; one son David Edward Gibson and wife, Theresa of Besssemer City; one sister Barbara Pryor and husband Howard of Georgia; sister-in-law, Cheryl Gibson of Kingsport, TN; a number of nieces and nephews.
