James Preston Garrett
( July 27, 1930 - November 17, 2012 )
Mr. James Preston Garrett, age 92, of Carillon Assisted Living, Lincolnton and formerly of 3309 Gardner Park Drive, Gastonia died Saturday, November 17, 2012.
His funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Garrett was born on July 27, 1920 in Greenville, SC. He was retired from Homelite, Inc. He also worked at Burlington Industries for 25 years, was an Army veteran of World War II, an active member of the Lion’s Club and his church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Garrett and a grandson, Jeffrey Garrett.He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Gladys Montjoy Garrett; one daughter, Linda Goode and husband, Bob of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Gail Garret of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Pamela Garrett, Todd Garrett, Jennifer Corregan and husband, Matt, Dinah Barkley, Amy Crisson and husband, Brian; eight great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gastonia Building Fund, 2650 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 North Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
