Obituaries

Joseph Phifer “JP” Walker age 94 of Courtland Terrace in Gastonia and formerly of Lincoln County died Wednesday, December 26, 2012.

His funeral service will be at 2:00pm Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 1:45pm at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Wilkies Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Walker was born December 28, 1917 in Burke County. He was the son of the late Joseph McDowell Walker and Hester York Walker. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Fortenberry Walker and  a brother, Delbert Walker. JP was a retired store manager from Eagles. He also farmed. Mr. Walker was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Lincolnton where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include sons; Larry Eugene Walker and wife Colette of Lincolnton, Arnold Marshall Walker and wife Darcel of Gastonia and daughter, Nancy Carolyn Walker of Charlotte; sister, Minnie Hawkins of Morganton; grandchildren, Wesley Walker, Krista Dilling and spouse Mark, Marshall Walker and spouse Lauren; great grandchildren, Victoria Dilling, Matthew Dilling and Jonathan Walker.
