Clyde Junius Morris, age 96, of Lexington and formerly of Sherrills Ford, NC joined his beloved wife of 76 years, Virginia Sigmon Morris (Gin) in heaven on January 18, 2013.
His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Denver Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 Saturday prior to the service at Denver Baptist Church. A private burial will follow.
Mr. Morris was born in Albemarle, NC on March 17, 1916 and was preceded in death by his parents Bessie Burris Morris and Ralph Morris, his siblings Ruth Morris Richardson and William L. Morris, Sr., and his close uncles and aunt Zebulon Burris, Alonzo Burris and Pearl Burris Lemmond. He was a graduate of Balls Creek High School, where he was president of his class. Upon graduation, Clyde worked for Mann Implement Company in Newton, Hickory and Lexington. In 1941, he became parts manager for the southeast region at International Harvester in Charlotte. After World War II, Clyde and his brother Bill operated Morris Brothers Kaiser/Fraser Dealership in Lincolnton until the Kaiser/Fraser Corporation went out of business. Shortly after, in 1953, Clyde began his career with the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina. He served BCHNC for over 25 years as its first purchasing agent, as a house parent with his wife Gin at The Home for Unwed Mothers in Asheville and then as a development officer. Clyde and Gin designed and built their own home in Sherrills Ford where they lived for over thirty years. They spent their last year in the care of their daughter and son-in-law in Lexington. Clyde was loved and respected for his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and for his demonstration of unconditional love.
He is survived by his daughters, Judith Ayers and husband Timothy of Columbus, OH; Sandra Lackey and husband Johnnie of Lexington; son, Joel Morris and wife Kathleen of Sherrills Ford; grandchildren, Bradley Lackey and wife Sandy, Drew and Jason Turner, Nichole Murphy and husband Allen, Ramin Ayers, David Lackey and wife April, Daniel Morris and wife Jaclyn, Matilda Moussa and Alex Siegel; great-grandchildren, Saeed and Junius Moussa, Cailsen, Joda and Byan Lackey, Sadie Harless, Max and Evan Murphy and Zack Morris.
