Obituaries

Margaret Ruth George Heavner Hawkins, 89, passed away on January 27 and went to be with her Lord in Heaven.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Southside Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Charles Ingle and Rev. Doug McClain officiating.

She was born October 14, 1923 in Lincolnton.  She was predeceased by her parents, the late Johnny Mack and Maggie Queen George, six sisters, two brothers, and her first husband, Robert Wayne Heavner.  She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 50 years and also a past member of The Order of Eastern Star.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert H. “Hawk” Hawkins after 57 years of marriage; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Heavner and wife Ann of Lincolnton and Rob Hawkins and wife Nancy of Newton; seven grandchildren, Lisa Heavner of Lincolnton, Von Heavner of Gastonia, Tallie Marie Stempien and husband Todd of Lincolnton, Rachel, Sarah and Rebekah Hawkins of Newton, and Kenny Michael of Lincolnton; and five great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Nash Heavner of Gastonia, Keely, Konnor, and Kenna Stempien of Lincolnton; as well as a number of nieces and nephews including Gloria Reid, Linda Baxter, Mike Dellinger, Janice Whitesides, and Jeffrey Reid, all of Lincolnton.
