Ada Christine Sigmon Sherrill
( April 11, 1927 - March 8, 2013 )

Ada Christine Sigmon Sherrill, widow of Monroe Thomas Sherrill, crossed over Jordan to be with Jesus on March 8, 2013.  Mrs. Sherrill was born in Catawba County on April 11, 1927 to the late Leroy P. and Vassie R. Sigmon.  She was the youngest of a family that included 5 brothers, W. Alexander, Coley P., Daniel M., Calvin L., and Kermit M. Sigmon and a sister, Helen S. White.

After graduating from Sherrills Ford High School in 1944, she attended Pfeiffer College in Charlotte then worked at various jobs until she retired at age of 70.  Her favorite job was that of a first grade teacher’s assistant at Rock Spring’s Elementary School.

Mrs. Sherrill married her “big man”, Monroe on February 16, 1946 and moved to their home in Denver where they lived together until he passed away in September of 2012.  She looked well to the ways of her household and was an excellent cook and seamstress. 

In her spare time she enjoyed singing and playing the piano, working in her yard, and going to yard sales.  Her love of reading instilled a passion for books in her children and grandchildren. She served the Lord by always being ready and willing to help anyone in need.  This usually included one of her famous chicken pies.

Mrs. Sherrill was part of the body of believers at Beth Haven Baptist Church for over 40 years where she served as a nursery worker, a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the choir.

She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Auton (Bud), Sheila Benfield (Gary), Tracy Painter (Ray) and Donna Henderson; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Beverly Arrowood and her 6 siblings.

The daughters would like to give a special thanks to   Mrs. Sherrill’s dedicated caregivers, Peggy Arrowood,   Shirley Beatty, Gladys Campos and Mildred Whitman.  They would also like to thank the excellent staff at the Palliative Care Center of Catawba County.

The family will receive friends at Beth Haven Baptist Church beginning at 1:45 to 2:45 pm on Monday, March 11.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm with burial in the church cemetery.
