John Lee Best, age 82, of 4934 Moonlite Bay Drive in Sherrills Ford, died on Friday, May 24, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Peter-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church with Father Ron Taylor officiating. A reception for receiving of friends will follow the service.

Mr. Best was born August 4, 1930 in Gaston County to the late Willard and Clyda Carpenter Best. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and then later was a mechanical engineer/designer.  

He is survived by his wife, Linda W. Best of the home; two sons, Brian Lee Best of Raleigh and Ronald Little Best of Lincolnton; a stepson, Michael Maddox and wife Lauren of Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Theresa Maddox Berry and husband Chris of Hudson; three brothers, James Best of Charlotte, Bill Best and wife Wilma of Rock Hill, SC, and Gene Best and wife Myrtle of Dallas, NC; one sister, Marlene Kiser and husband Hugh of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
