Major Charles Frank Hornbuckle, Jr., age 88 of 5130 Lineberger Road in Stanley died on Saturday, June 8, 2013.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Ervin officiating.

Mr. Hornbuckle was born on January 17, 1925 in Gibsonville, NC to the late Charles Frank Hornbuckle, Sr. and Elizabeth Stewart Hornbuckle.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Robert Goodson Hornbuckle.  Major Hornbuckle was Retired USAF with 30 years of service, WWII and Vietnam veteran, flew B17’s, B29’s, B47’s and B52 bombers.  He was also retired from 22 years of employment with Gaston County Dyeing Machine Company where he was in field service and later safety manager.

Survivors include his son Charles R. Hornbuckle and his wife Kathy of Stanley, NC and by his adopted granddaughter Savannah Smith of Gastonia, NC.
