Obituaries

Mr. Thomas “Gene” Saunders, age 74 of Lincolnton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

His funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 am prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sue and Clyde Chapman, 2430 E. Highway 150 in Lincolnton.

Mr. Saunders was born July 21, 1938 in Lincoln County to the late W. Glenn and Sarah Little Saunders. He worked as a store manager for Harris-Teeter Supermarkets. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member, and former deacon, of Boger City Baptist Church. He also had a passion for golfing and was a longtime member of Lincoln Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Marie Rudisill Saunders of Lincolnton; a son, Jody Saunders and wife Deanna of Lincolnton; a daughter, Lynn Beebe and husband Jon of Boone, NC; one brother, Reid Saunders and special friend, Linda Beal of Lincolnton; two sisters, Sue Chapman and husband Clyde of Lincolnton and Dianne Yount and husband Ronald of Cullowhee, NC; and four grandchildren, Justin Beebe, Laurel Beebe, Darren Beebe, and AnnMarie Robinson.
