Samuel C. Carpenter Jr., age 92, formerly of Lincolnton, passed quietly away on June 19, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Wilmington, NC.
Sam was the son of Samuel Carpenter and Kate Seagle Carpenter of Lincolnton. He was preceded by his sisters Claudia Carpenter Kilpatrick of Elizabethtown and Minta Carpenter Moore of Jacksonville, Fl. He is survived by nephews Ben Kilpatrick Jr and wife Sydney of Whiteville, David Kilpatrick of Wilmington, Jack Moore Jr. of Jacksonville, Fl, niece Kathy Reynolds and husband Tommy of Greer, SC, and numerous cousins.
Lt. Col (Ret) Carpenter was a WWII veteran. In 1944 Lt. Carpenter led his platoon onto Omaha Beach in Normandy France during the Allied D-Day Invasion and campaigned throughout France and Germany until the end of the war. He continued his Armed Service career with a final assignment at the Pentagon before retiring.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, June 24, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton. The Burial will follow at Daniels Lutheran Church where his father was caretaker and they lived during his early childhood in the 1920’s. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
