Obituaries

Serita Bess Fowler, age 85, of 1339 Wilma Sigmon Road in Lincolnton, passed into her heavenly home on Sunday, July 14, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Boger City Baptist Church with Pastors Bill Bigham and Brad Boyles officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Lutheran Church cemetery. Visitation will be at the home from 3:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

Mrs. Fowler was born February 24, 1928 in Lincoln County to the late Lee Otis and Ola Blanche Whitworth Bess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband John H. Fowler, brothers, Bill and Pete Bess and a sister, Lib Lackey. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was known as “Granny” to all and it was a name she loved. She was a strong remarkable woman and belonged to Boger City Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters Reta Taggart and husband Dave of Knoxville, IA, Barbara Thompson and Bob Dey of West Palm Beach, FL, Donata Summey and husband Lum, Cindy Sherrill and husband Randy, all of Lincolnton; sisters, Gayle Brendle and husband Junior of Rockwell, NC,  Agnes Sipe and husband Jack of Sherrills Ford, a sister-in-law Nellie Bess of Lincolnton a brother, Robert Bess and wife Lena of Lawndale; eight grandchildren, Angie Kenin, Rob Taggart, Brad and Chad Boyles, Brooke Sherrill, Lauren Smith, Rick and Tim Garner; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Brandon, Miller, and Jackson Boyles, Sam and Sara Belle Boyles, Samm, Katie, Tiffany and Destiny Taggart, Riley and Tanner Kenin, and John and Callie Garner.
