Obituaries

William Edward Boyles, age 92, of 4846 W. Highway 27 in Vale, died on Thursday, August 8, 2013.

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. George Williams officiating.  The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Boyles was born April 23, 1921 in Lincoln County to the late George Dewey and Pearl Houser Boyles.  He served as a staff sergeant and squad leader in the United States Army, 36^th Infantry Division, Company G 142^nd, during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead, three bronze battle stars, a Purple Heart with oak leaf clusters, and a good conduct medal.  Mr. Boyles retired from Carolina Freight Carriers after 33 years.  He was a Mason, a member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer, president of the West Lincoln High School sports boosters, and a member of the American Legion and VFW.  In his spare time, he enjoyed family, gardening, and his pets.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beulah Propst Boyles of the home; a daughter, Judy Ball and husband Larry of Boone; a son, Eddie Boyles and wife Debbie of Denver; three grandchildren, Jason Boyles and wife Kristy, Tracy Ball and wife Katie, Tyler Boyles and wife Amanda, great-grandson, Levi Ball; five sisters, Ida Burton of Vale, Doris Bobbitt of Bessemer City, Peggy Bumgardner of Cherryville, Nancy Houser of Vale, and Ardie Sue Boyles of Vale; a brother, Bud Boyles and wife Pat of Vale; seventeen nieces; and twelve nephews.
