Obituaries

Joseph Matthew Brooks, age 79, of 3106 Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice.

His funeral will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Tate officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m.     

Mr. Brooks was born August 12, 1934 in Gaston County, NC an area known as “Bungalow” to the late Ralston Ulric and Margaret Roberta Lay Brooks.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Vetta Grey Benfield Brooks, a brother, Glen Brooks, and a sister, Margaret Curtis.   He retired as a special projects manager for Spanco Yarns in Bogata, Columbia.

Survivors include: three daughters, Carrie Jane Jordan, Linda Diane Smith and husband Michael, and Sarah Virginia Jenkins and husband Bruce, all of Lincolnton; two brothers, Robert Edward Brooks of Asheville, NC and Harold Stephen Brooks of Pumpkin Center; one sister, Rev. Mildred Snell of High Point; four grandchildren, Emily Lackey, Jacob Lackey, Tiffany Beam, and Jeremy Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Logan Norman, Dylan, and T.J. Beam, Khristian and Gabriel Garcia.
