Obituaries

Mr. Gerald Herbert Abernethy, age 61, of 2023 Modern Estates Road in Lincolnton, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 13, 2013.

His funeral service will be 3:30 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Tate and Rev. Jim Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 17, 2013 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home. 

Mr. Abernethy was born March 12, 1952 in Lincoln County to the late Gerald Bain and Margaret Elizabeth Williams Abernethy.  He served in the National Guard and then later was an automobile salesman.   He served as Scout Master of Troop 76 in Lincolnton for 30 years and loved camping, fishing, antique cars, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Richard Abernethy of the home; two daughters, Kelly Stroupe and husband Jeff of Lincolnton and Lindsey Revels and husband John of Bessemer City; three sons, Gerald Scott Abernethy of Snellville, GA, Gerald Herbert Abernethy, II of Richmond, VA, and Christopher James Parker of the home; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Sandy Huss of Lincolnton and Terri Brackett of Crouse.
