Mrs. Catherine Lucille Byers Avery, age 89, of 782 Old Lincolnton-Crouse Road in Lincolnton died Thursday, December 26, 2013.
Her funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Messiah United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Avery was born on September 29, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Lee M. and Minnie Sain Byers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl L. Avery, one son, Carl L. Avery, Jr., two brothers, Samuel Byers and William “Bud” Byers, and one sister Betty Leonard. Mrs. Avery was a nurse. She worked and trained at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Mrs. Avery then went on to work at Gamble Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital and ultimately retired from Crowell Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy A. Avery of Vale; two daughters, Patsy A. Tillman of Lincolnton and Susan A. Sutton of Greensboro; two sisters Mary Lee Avery and Sue Jane Sides both of Lincolnton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church, 4102 Highway 27 West, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
