Obituaries

Betty Lee Andrews Rhyne, age 92, of Kingston Residence of Hickory, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in Lincolnton at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mike Collins officiating, and Rev. Jim Evans assisting at the graveside. Burial will follow in the Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. in the North Wing of the church.

Mrs. Rhyne was born December 16, 1921 in Buncombe County to the late Ellison Capers Andrews and Willie Bernice Foster Andrews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Clifford A. Rhyne, and a daughter Betsy Rhyne Mazak. Mrs. Rhyne was the Director of Social Services for Lincoln County for 19 years.

She is survived by a daughter Martha Rhyne-Winkler and husband Dorman of Granite Falls; son-in-law Richard Mazak of Lincolnton; a sister Kathleen Wagner of Tryon; brother-in-law Douglas Rhyne and wife Marion of Dallas, NC; sister-in-law Myra Rhyne of Kingston; two nieces, Betty Kathleen Henderson of Chinle, AZ and Kristine Kriener Kraus of Durham; three nephews John Kriener and wife Barbara of Alamosa, CO, Karlos Kriener of Spartanburg, SC, and Leslie Kriener of Spartanburg, SC; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
