Obituaries

After a 4-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Sarah “Lucille” Duckworth Sutton, age 92, of Carillon Assisted Living, and formerly of Rosehill Drive in Lincolnton, passed peacefully to join her friends and family in Heaven.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dennis Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lucille was born June 22, 1921, in Lincoln County to the late Thomas Clyde and Lula Guess Duckworth. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clint Wilson Sherrill, her second husband, Bruce M. Sutton of 50 years, infant brother William Duckworth, brothers Floyd Bill Duckworth and Harold Bud Duckworth, and a sister, Doris Johannessen. She worked as a seamstress.

She is survived by five sons, Joey Sherrill and wife Carol, Randy Sherrill and wife Cindy, Fred Sherrill, Jerry Sherrill, and Scott Sutton, all of Lincolnton; a daughter, Lesa Hovis of Lincolnton; two sisters, Hazel Gilbert of Lincolnton and Pauline Williams of Charlotte; ten grandchildren, Shannon Harris and husband Mike, Clay Sherrill, Kyle Hovis and wife Kaylon, Travis Sutton and wife Lauren, Amber Sherrill, Brooke Sherrill, Wesley Hovis, Spencer Sutton and wife Lauren, Dillon Sutton, and Taylor Sutton; and nine great-grandchildren, Laken, Jennifer, Andrew, and Abby Harris; Brody and Alayna Hovis; and Adleigh, Abree, and Lane Sutton.
