Betty Jo Barger, 74, of Lincolnton, passed away February 26, 2014, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a survivor of breast cancer for 35 years.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 11:00 am at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Dr. Judy Eurey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Betty Jo was born September 23, 1939, in Lincoln county to the late Joe Mull and Ruby Ingle Mull. She graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1958. She then graduated from Gastonia Beauty College, becoming a beautician. She also worked at Gibbs Underwear, and later as a vendor with Canteen Vending Company at La-Z-Boy Furniture.
Her hobbies were acrylic painting, handmade crafts, and helping with senior citizens, especially the “Happy Timers” at Pisgah United Methodist Church, where she served as both president and vice-president. She was a former children’s teacher, as well as co-leader of the junior UMYF. She was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Women where for several years she served as president. She belonged to the Long Shoals Extension Club for over 30 years. She also volunteered at the ECA in the Citizens Center. She also helped with the senior craft show at Boger City United Methodist Church for many years.
Betty Jo enjoyed traveling with her husband to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Atlanta, Georgia, and the outer banks of North Carolina. Her most recent trip was to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in December of last year.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Daniel (Danny) Barger, Sr.; three sons, Adrian Barger and wife Lisa, Daniel Barger, Jr. and wife Tracy, and Nelson Barger and wife Kendra; five grandchildren, Caitlin Barger, Victoria Barger, Noah Barger, Rachel Barger, and Abigail Barger; two sisters, Faye Leatherman and Mary Alice Summey; and one brother, Eddie Mull of Red Oak, TX.
