Obituaries

Melba Jean Davis Gray, age 74, of Jefferson, North Carolina, died on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Goss officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gray was born September 7, 1939, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Wolford and Cora Smith Davis. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Grover Gray and three brothers, Wesley Davis, Kenneth Davis, and Billy Davis. She worked as a hairstylist.

She is survived by a son, Jim Ward and wife Michelle of Fredricksburg, VA; a daughter, Jo Tiffany Wells and husband Fred of Matthews; stepson Daryl Gray of Maiden; two stepdaughters, Judy Gray of Maiden and Rita Gray of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Jon ward, Jordan Seagle, Keesha McCall, Andy Hurst, and Jamie Mitchem; and five great-grandchildren, Gavin Green, Carleigh Green, Brooke Mitchem, Autumn Mitchem, and Landon Hurst.
