Mr. Horace Tillman Beam, Jr., age 86 of Morningside Assisted Living in Gastonia, died on Friday, May 30, 2014.

His funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Philadelphia Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Weant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:50 pm prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Beam was born on June 28, 1927 in Gaston County to the late Horace Tillman Beam, Sr. and Alda Ruth Summey Beam. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John P. Beam and one sister, Martha Ruth Caudill. Mr. Beam was a retired school teacher with Gaston County Public Schools. He enjoyed music and served as a church organist and choir director for over 40 years. Survivors include two nieces, Kathryne Liddle and husband Lynn, Johnsie Price and husband, Mark; two nephews, Richard Caudill and wife Maribeth and John H. Beam and wife Leslie.
