Obituaries

Dr. John Reeves Gamble, Jr., born March 26, 1922 in Lincolnton, NC to the late Dr. John Reeves and Hope Seibert Gamble passed away June 2^nd, 2014 in Lincolnton. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Rhodes Gamble, a brother Dr. James Seibert Gamble, and a sister Leanora Gamble Poag.

He is survived by three children, John R. Gamble III of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth Rhodes Gamble and her husband Peter R. Lichstein of Winston Salem, NC and Mary Caroline Gamble of Advance, NC; two grandchildren, Paul Michael Lichstein of Palo Alto, CA and Jesse Caroline Lichstein of Carrboro, NC.

Dr. Gamble graduated from Lincolnton High School, Emory University and the University of  Maryland School of Medicine. He did his training in surgery at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Roanoke General Hospital. He served in the US army as a MASH surgeon in Korea and Japan. He lived his life in Lincolnton and practiced at Reeves Gamble Hospital until it was donated to the county for the formation of the Lincoln County Hospital. He served multiple terms as Chair of the Lincoln County Commissioners and many terms in the NC Legislature.

The family will receive friends at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 5^th at 1 pm. Service will follow at 2 pm. Interment will follow the service at Hollybrook Cemetery.
