Obituaries

Mrs. Lena Mae Colvard Kiser, age 93, of 440 Salem Church Road in Lincolnton, NC passed away on Sunday, June 15, 1014.  Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Her funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kiser was born November 3, 1920 in Putnam County, GA.  She was one of seven children of the late Jacob P. and Nancy Florence Moore Colvard.  The family relocated to North Carolina when Lena was two years old and she lived in the Lincolnton area until 2002 when she moved to the North Georgia Mountains.  She returned to Lincolnton in 2008 and resided at Carillon Assisted Living – Garden Place, where she received wonderful loving care from the entire staff.

Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband James (Jim) Woodrow Kiser.  She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jewell Lee Colvard, Johnny Colvard, Sr., J.B. Colvard, M.D. Colvard, and her only sister, Irene Colvard Jordan.

She was a long time member of the Messiah United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.   Over the years she was consistently involved in many activities of the church including the Choir, Bible School, Sunday School Teaching, and the United Methodist Women.  Her kind smile and pleasant personality always showed clearly when she was pursuing the duties of the church.

Lena was employed in the local textile industry for 36 years and retired from the Crown Converting Company in 1986.  After her retirement she continued to stay active in the church and in many local worthwhile projects including the Lincolnton Soup Kitchen and Good Neighbor Shop.  She gave her time generously to those who benefited from her good nature, her smile, and her kindness.  She frequently visited the local nursing home, bringing hope and smiles to the residents.

She is survived by her two children, Shelby (Peggy) Kiser Moore and husband Dave off Ellijay, GA and James William (Bill) Kiser and wife Kay of Vale, NC; one brother, Frank Colvard and wife Ruth of Lincolnton, four sisters-in-law Mable Kiser Quickel, Sarah Kiser Brackett, Margaret Sue Kiser, and Hazel Kiser.

She had four grandchildren, Pati Moore Kelly and Angela C. Moore of Atlanta, GA, James (Jimmy) William Kiser II and wife Holly of Cherryville, NC and Kim Kiser Doucette of Naples, FL.  She also had one great grandchild.  Lena is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews.
