Obituaries
Philip Olin Gentry, age 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 23, 2014.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Gentry was born in Winston-Salem, NC on June 27, 1922, son of the late Robert Joshua Gentry and Amanda Liggins Gentry. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Claude Leonard Gentry, and sister, Margaret Gentry Parker.
Phil was a devoted Christian, who served in the church in various capacities over the years, including deacon, minister of music, and Sunday School teacher.
Phil was a pioneer in the design and construction of steel frame commercial and residential buildings.
He was a proud Marine who served in World War II in the South Pacific.
Phil had many hobbies, which included being an avid golfer, private airplane pilot, painter, poet, and he has written his autobiography.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Blevins Gentry of Lincolnton; two sons, Phil Gentry, Jr. and wife Sue Johnson Gentry of Kannapolis, Robert (Bobby) Gentry and wife Christi Taylor Gentry of Cherryville; four grandsons, Garrett, Josh, Clint, and Ian Gentry; granddaughter, Hollyn Gentry; two great-grandsons, Parker and Grant Gentry, and two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Olivia Gentry.
