Mr. Flay Clifton “Tip” Scronce, age 77, of 4765 Hoover Road in Vale, died on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Freida Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Tip was born July 31, 1937, in Lincoln county, to the late Fred and Eather Carpenter Scronce. He served in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from Carolina Freight Carriers after 27 years where he was a dock worker. He also worked for Lincoln County maintenance and at Burris Industries.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Simmons Scronce of the home; two sons, Chad Scronce of Lincolnton and Michael Scronce and wife Crissy of Vale; one daughter, Amy Scronce and friend James Martin of Lincolnton; one brother, Fred Scronce, Jr. and wife Lisa of Vale; one sister, Rita LeFevers and husband Bud of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren, Mandi Scronce, Destiny Scronce, Logan Scronce, Luke Scronce, Harley Scronce, Blaze Martin, and Peyton Scronce; and many nieces and nephews.
