Obituaries

Dr. Karl Lander Lawing, Jr., age 89, of 327 N. Laurel Street in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, 5220 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC 27106, with Rev. Michael Collins officiating.

Dr. Lawing was born September 19, 1925, in Lincoln County, to the late Karl Lander Lawing, Sr. and Beulah Philmon Lawing. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and then later worked as a medical doctor.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth B. Lawing of the home; three sons, John Lawing and wife Jill of Philadelphia, PA, Karl L. Lawing, III of Lincolnton, and Robert Clyde Lawing and wife Jeri of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Shelton and companion Ron McKenzie of Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren, Kathryn Manthey, Hannah Lawing of New Orleans, LA, Betsy Shelton of Atlanta, GA, Robert Shelton of Winston-Salem, and Margaret Lawing and Rebecca Lawing, both of Charleston, SC.
