Obituaries

Mr. Donald (Don) Harold Lackey, Jr. passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 in his grandmother’s home in Lincolnton, NC. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church where Don was a member with Rev. Michael Collins officiating. Following the service Don will be buried next to his wife in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Lackey was born May 16, 1952 in Lincoln County to the late Donald Harold Lackey, Sr. and Evelyn Hoover Lackey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edythe (Beth) Lackey. Don loved to be outdoors and spent most of his free time hiking, boating, biking and competing in triathlons. He also enjoyed spending time in North Myrtle Beach, exploring the marshes and swimming in the ocean. He worked as a chemist for more than 30 years at General Tire and ShurTape Technologies. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sister, Lynn Moore and his four children, Lela Lackey, Hershel Lackey, Elijah Lackey and Joseph Lackey, his nephew Austin Moore; as well as his two grandchildren, Harold Heldenbrand and Edythe Heldenbrand.

In lieu of flowers his family suggests that contributions in his memory be sent to Friends of the Mountains to the Sea, an organization that supports the 1000 mile trail from the Blue Ridge to the Outer Banks.
