Obituaries

Shirley McConnell Canipe, age 77, of 3317 Ginger Lane in Maiden, died on Thursday, February 5, 2015.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at East Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Reese officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:15 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Canipe was born May 15, 1937, in Iredell county, to the late Joel Wilrow and Berlie Andis McCalister McConnell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Robert Canipe, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild. She worked in textiles for 50 years and also loved her church, where she was a member for 41 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Maners and husband Hoppy of Lincolnton, and Sharon Darlene Helms and husband Wayne of Lincolnton; a son, Max Clifton Canipe and wife Alice of Maiden; two brothers, David McConnell and J.W. McConnell; five sisters, Celeste Helms, Aileen Elliott, Patsy Sherrill, Joyce Alexander, and Pam Poole; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
