Margaret Ballard Cook
( June 17, 1925 - March 14, 2015 )
Mrs. Margaret Ballard Cook, age 89, of the Preston House Charlotte and formally of 1045 General Hoke Drive, Lincolnton died on Saturday March 14, 2015.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday March 17, 2015 at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home from 9:30am until 10:30am prior to the graveside service.
Mrs. Cook was a native of Lincoln County born on June 17, 1925, daughter of the late Ernest and Gwendolyn McCaul Ballard. She was a graduate of Lincolnton High School and received a B.S. degree from Queens College in 1945. Also in 1945, she married Lt. Col. Olen C. Cook.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincolnton and served the church as a Deacon, president of Women of the Church, and as a longtime choir member. Mrs. Cook taught primary grades in the Lincoln County School system for many years. She was a past president and secretary of the Work and Grow Garden Club and an active bridge player.
Survivors include: two daughters Laura C. Smith and husband Dr. Jim Smith of Charlotte, Caroline C. Orlandi and husband Nicholas of Charlotte; two sisters Dorothy B. Brown and husband Barton of Hendersonville N.C., Virginia B. Clinard and husband Jack of Supply N.C., four grandchildren: Elaine Smith, Brian Smith, Jordan Orlandi, and Cameron Orlandi.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Levine-Dickson Hospice House 11900 Vanstory Drive Huntersville, N.C. 28078.
