Mary Sue Carswell Cooper Gates

Mary Sue Carswell Cooper Gates, age 87, of 222 Coopertown Road in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, May 14, 2015.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church with Rev. Jon Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mary was born December 31, 1927, in Rutherford County, to the late Alexander and Susie West Carswell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son Carl Dennis Cooper, and both husbands, Carl Sims Cooper, Jr. and Carol Gene Gates. She retired from Mohican Mills after 30+ years, attended Hulls Grove Baptist Church, and was a member of Long Shoals Wesleyan Church since 1979.
She is survived by two daughters, Melba Cooper Finley of Lincolnton and Reba Prater of Iron Station; five grandsons, Richard Von Finley and wife Misty of Cherryville, Ronnie Leon Finley and wife Renee of Charleston, Mark Dwayne Finley and wife Brandy of Florida, Kyle Prater, and Travis Prater and wife Laura, all of Lincolnton; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Long Shoals Wesleyan Church, 3032 Wesleyan Church Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
