Lewis Hammond Mulkey

Lewis Hammond Mulkey, age 78, Denver, NC, passed away May 23, 2015, in the arms of his devoted wife of 59 years, Tommie Kelly Mulkey.
He was predeceased by his father Cecil Raymond Mulkey, mother Mattalea Hammond Mulkey, brother Cecil R. Mulkey, Jr., grandmother Nancy Elizabeth Colley, sons-in-law Michael Patterson and David Piendel.
He is survived by his children, Marc Mulkey (Marie) , Denver, NC, Marian Piendel, Charlotte, NC, Melanie Patterson, Boone, NC, and Marsha Tate, Denver, NC; sister Anne Shelton (Harold), and brother Joe Mulkey; grandchildren, Brandon Mulkey, Spencer King, Jennifer Allison (Josh), and Samuel King; great-grandchildren. Braden Mulkey, Avery Spencer King, and Cooper Allison.
Lewis was born April 1, 1937, in Walhalla, SC. He graduated from East Spencer High School and began his life’s work as a water boy for Duke Power Company in power plant construction and achieved success as Superintendent, Power House Mechanics upon his retirement after 38 years of service. He loved singing, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, fixing things, gardening, and lake-living.
A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton, NC with Reverend Jimmy King officiating.
