Gary Gordon Wagner
( January 7, 1933 - June 22, 2015 )
Gary Gordon Wagner, Sr. of Cherryville, N.C. passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at the age of 82.
His funeral service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday June 24 ,2015 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Randi Godfrey and Rev. Randy Heffer officiating . Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Wagner was born January 7, 1933 to the late Harvey McKinley Wagner and the late Nannie Doster Wagner. He was the youngest of five children and was proceeded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thelma Parker Wagner ; his daughter Donna Wagner Walter and husband Greg Walter; and his son Gary Gordon Wagner Jr. and wife Valerie Wagner. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Katelyn Walter, Jesse Wagner, Natalie Wagner and Elizabeth Walter.
Mr. Wagner was born in Stanley, N.C. and moved to Cramerton, N.C. at the age of 5. He attended school in Cramerton and graduated from high school in 1951. On September 16, 1952 he joined the US Air Force and served until September 3, 1956. He then attended UNC Chapel Hill and graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, N.C. 1963. He was then employed by the Department of Revenue as an auditor in June 1963 in Charlotte and served there for almost 27 years until he retired as the Supervisory Auditor in 1990.
He was an active member of his church and enjoyed being a part of the United Methodist Men. He also taught Sunday School for many years while he was able. He also enjoyed antique cars and participated in numerous car events.
