Mary Dover Newton, age 91, went home with the Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2015
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Key officiating. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mary was born October 28, 1923, in Cleveland County, to the late Ralph David and Mary Fulton Herndon Dover. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Newton. She was retired from Sweetree Mills and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville, NC.
She is survived by a son, Howard Gene Newton and wife Myrtle of Lincolnton; daughters, Rebecca Newton Lockman and husband John of Denver, Deborah Newton Schmidt and husband Charles of Cherryville, and Daphine Newton Garrett and husband Gary of Sanford; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 112 Mount Zion Church Road, Cherryville, NC 28021.
