Obituaries

Norman Devon Lutz, age 82, of 6986 Golden Bay Court in Sherrills Ford, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Christian Life Center.

Mr. Lutz was born January 20, 1933, in Gaston County, to the late Ralph S. and Meadie Hudspeth Lutz. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson Christopher Shaun Lutz, a brother Ralph T. Lutz, and a sister Syvilla Hoffman. Mr. Lutz was retired from the Lake Norman Marine Commission where he served as a police officer, was Captain of Detectives at the Lincoln County Sherriff’s Department, and was also an ordained Baptist minister serving several congregations.

He is survived by his wife, Varnell “Bonnie” Jones Lutz of the home; a son, Keith Lutz and wife Margie of Maiden; two grandchildren, Bryan K. Lutz and wife Niki and Allison Lutz Hinson and husband Steven; two step-grandchildren, Keith R. Gooden and Tommi L. Chapman and husband Jeremy; and nine great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kaleb, Tristan, Rylan, Steven, Carin, Christian, Samantha, and Sophie.
