Max Houston Garner
( June 11, 1939 - September 3, 2015 )
Max Houston Garner, age 76, of Danbrook Circle in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wyant officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery with Masonic and military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Max was born June 11, 1939, in Lincoln County, to the late Howard Houston and Bonnie Cornwell Garner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Elaine Huffman Garner, and a brother Jack Garner. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War where he received the Navy Good Conduct medal, the National Defense Service medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal. Max then later worked as a technician for AT&T. He was a member of the Masons, the Shriners, and the Scottish Rights.
He is survived by his children: Son Max Garner, Jr. and wife Debra of Sandy Hook, VA, daughter Mollie Garner of Lincolnton, Son Marc Garner and wife Angela of Crouse; two brothers, Bill Garner and Larry Garner and wife Sherry, all of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Matthew Houston Garner and wife Sarah of Goochland, VA, Brandon Michael Garner of Sandy Hook, VA, and Zachary Austin Garner of Crouse; and a great-grandson, Luke Houston Garner.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092, the Masonic Orphanage in Oxford, NC, or to the Shriner’s Hospital.
