Yates Gorman Hovis

Yates Gorman Hovis, age 90, of Lincolnton, and formerly Iron Station, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sandy Marks officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hovis was born July 31, 1925, in Burke County, to the late Gorman Edgar and Ila Helderman Hovis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Stacey Hovis, and his first wife Louise Coley Hovis. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Hovis was brick mason early in life and later retired from Gaston County Dye as a welder.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Coffey Hovis of the home; a niece, Cynthia Ann Stewart of Conway, SC; two step-children, Patsy Ann Coley and Harold Dean Coley; step-grandchildren, Max Coley, Jacob Kelly, and Andrew Kelly, and wife Deanna; one great-grandchild, Carter Michael Kelly; and a godchild, Aleta Fredell.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
