David Lee Self
( April 10, 1931 - April 26, 2016 )
David Lee Self, age 85, of Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Self was born April 10, 1931, in Lincoln County, to the late Earl Yates Self and Rhoda Lawing Self. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his daughter, Andrea “Cissy” Self Anderson; a sister, Earlene Self Kiser; and a brother, Kermit Self. David served in the United States Army, tank division, during the Korean Conflict. He was a Past Master of Lincoln Lodge and a member of Oasis Shrine. He was a truck driver for Carolina Freight Carriers and served as a Teamster president during that time. David was also a business owner of Estate Jewelers and Old South Antiques in Lincolnton for nearly 50 years.
David was a real people person. He always enjoyed meeting new people and enjoyed the company of good friends. He never met a stranger. He was a man of great vision, strong values, and upmost integrity.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carol Lee Self, and her two sons, Richard Aaron Meyer, and wife Donna, and Adam James Meyer, and companion Shanler Helderman, of Clemmons; daughter Karen Self Hurt, and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Amanda Hurt Hilton (Billy) of Hickory, Jeffery Reid Hurt (and companion Brittney) of Lincolnton; great-grandchildren, McKinley and Hadley Hilton; and a son, David D. Self, and wife Donna.
