Rayvon "Ray" Harrison Mathis

Rayvon “Ray” Harrison Mathis, age 84, of Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, May 10th, 2016.
His funeral service will be held at 4pm on Friday May 13th, 2016 under the arbor of St. Matthews United Church of Christ with Rev. John Barnette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 12th , 2016 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Mathis was born May 8th, 1932, in Lincoln County, to the late Mattie Mathis Petty and Thomas Poole. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Claude Mathis (Mary), Paul Mathis (Mary), Ross Mathis (Ora Lee), and Dewey Mathis (Marjorie); sisters Edna Cherry (Manuel), Mary McMahan (Roy), Velma Ingle (J.D.), and Georgia Smith (Howard); a grandson William David Harrison Collins , and stepfather Robert Lee Petty
He is survived by his wife of 64 ½ years, Dorothy Campbell Mathis of the home; a son, Dale Mathis of Lincolnton; two daughters, Angela Collins of Lincolnton and Linda Gantt of Vale; six grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.
Ray was a devoted husband and father, he was a very compassionate man assisting and ministering to anyone in need never seeking recognition. Ray was a long time member and Sunday School teacher at St. Matthews Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthews United Church of Christ, PO Box 739, Maiden, NC, 28650 or to the charity of one’s choice.
