Obituaries

Verla Jane Overton , age 96, of Monroe and formerly of Pineville died peacefully Tuesday, June 07, 2016.  She will be remembered for her smile and sweet spirit.

The family will gather for a graveside service Saturday morning with Rev. Dr. Ron Tippens at Providence Presbyterian Church.  A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at Pineville United Methodist Church where she was a member.  Reverends Tom and Amelia Stinson-Wesley will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Mrs. Overton was born on February 9, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Maggie Harris.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Overton and five siblings.

She is survived by her twin sister, Verna Jean Forsse of California; two daughters, Rayona Black(Ted) of Peachland and Sandra Lewis(Larry) of Gastonia; seven grandchildren, Stephanie DeFeo(Ken), Vernon Atkinson(Terry), Michael Black(Laurie), Robbie Atkinson(Teresa), Christie Warlick(Dave), Jeffrey Atkinson(Laura), Craig Atkinson(Nui); 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.
