Rufus Ward "Sonny" Hatley, Jr.

Mr. Rufus Ward “Sonny” Hatley, Jr., age 78, of 1716 Blue Bird Lane in Stanley, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Hatley was born July 1, 1938, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Rufus Ward Hatley, Sr. and Sara Lee Porter Hatley. For 37 years, he worked as a design engineer for Duke Energy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Y. Hatley of the home; two sons, Ron Hatley, and wife Debbie, of Stanley, and David Hatley, and wife Lindsay, of Denver; one sister, Frances Hatley Howard, and husband Terry, of Matthews; five grandsons, Greg Hatley, and wife Mary, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Jaerod Hatley of Lincolnton, Tyler Hatley, Tanner Hatley, and Trevor Hatley; one granddaughter, Mackensie Hatley, all of Denver; two great-grandchildren, McKenna Hatley of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Daniel Ratchford of Denver; sister-in-law, Judy Lowder, and husband Reggie, of New London, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glenn Allen, VA 23058-5267, or to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28207.
