Audrey Virginia Sims Carpenter
( November 17, 1929 - August 25, 2016 )
Audrey Virginia Sims Carpenter, age 86, of Lincolnton, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Salem United Church of Christ with Rev. Anne Wepner and Carrie Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family will be at the home of Freddie Carpenter on Friday evening.
Mrs. Carpenter was born November 17, 1929, in Catawba County, to the late George Fink Sims and Gladys Taylor Sims. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother Jack Sims, and a sister Alice Sims. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Audrey worked in the textile industry and later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. She enjoyed many years of travel with family and friends and her loving husband, Fred.
She is survived by her husband, Fred H. Carpenter; a son, Freddie Carpenter of Lincolnton; a daughter, Susan Smith, and husband Gary, of Browns Summit, NC; two brothers, Mickey Sims and Ted Sims, both of Conover; one sister, Evadene Scronce of Newton; four granddaughters, Carrie Carpenter of Sanford, Sadie Simpson, and husband Trey, of Marion, Jamie Carpenter and friend Ross Payne, of Hendersonville, and Christina Scheper, and husband Pat, of Durham; two grandsons, Brent Wuchae of Oak Island and Greg Smith, and wife Kellie, of Raleigh; and three great-grandchildren, Emily and Patrick Scheper, and Kinslie Smith.
Memorials may be made to the Salem United Church of Christ and Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3410 Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
