( March 9, 1942 - August 25, 2016 )
Mary Elizabeth (Libba) Stuart Perrin, 74, died August 25, 2016, at Carillon Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born on March 9, 1942, in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Harry (Buck) Stuart and the late Martha Lee Stuart.
Mrs. Perrin grew up in Charlotte where she graduated from Garringer High School. She attended Flora MacDonald College and graduated from St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, NC with a degree in home economics. She later earned her teaching certificate and taught home economics at Coulwood Middle School in Charlotte for 18 years.
In her younger years, Libba took dance lessons for 12 years. Her love of ballet and tap stayed with her; she enjoyed dancing with her 3 girls and her granddaughters. Going to the ballet was always a highlight for her. The sun and water, whether the beach or the lake, continually brought Libba great joy. Libba was an accomplished seamstress and cook, known for her pound cakes. Being active in her church women's ministries was always important to her.
Surviving Mrs. Perrin are her three daughters, Mary Kent Splain (John) of Denver, Lara Lynn Christopher (Vince) of Denver, and Julie Otto (Duane) of Gridley, IL; two stepsons, Bill Perrin of Paducah, KY and Jamie Perrin of Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Paula Croom of Mooresville. She is preceded in death by her husband William 'Bill' Perrin, sister Martha Kate 'Kay' Tucker, and stepson Patrick Perrin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ryan Splain (Tara), Charlie Splain (Diamelen), Jessica Weems, Calvin Otto, Sophie Otto, Libby Otto, Millie Otto, Rose Otto, and Jonathan Otto; and seven step-grandchildren, Brooke Perrin Ward, Emily Perrin, Jack Perrin, Danny Perrin, Elizabeth Croom, Margaret Croom, and Preston Perrin.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Unity Presbyterian Church in Denver, NC with Reverend Tricia Lytle and Reverend Duane Otto officiating. The family will receive friends immediately afterward in the fellowship hall. A family graveside service will be held at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson, NC.
