David Page Choate
( January 1, 1936 - February 19, 2017 )
David Page Choate, 81, passed away Sunday, February 19 at Catawba Valley Regional Hospice House in Newton, NC.  He was born January 1, 1936, in Winston-Salem, NC, the only child of William Page and Ruby Richardson Choate.

David served his country as a sergeant in the US Army.  He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a Master’s Degree in Adult Education.  His service to Lincoln County began in 1962 as a 4-H agent.  He served as an Agriculture Extension Agent in the cooperative extension and later became Extension Chairman.  He was named Man of the Year in 1974 and received national recognition as one of the ten outstanding young 4-H agents in the country, was appointed to the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, and the Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation Board.  He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge, and a member of Boger City United Methodist Church.  

David married Martha Jane Yoder in 1962; the recently celebrated 54 years of marriage.  He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and friend, an avid sportsman, and a cheerful, energetic soul who brought smiles to all who knew him.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Page and Ruby Choate.  He is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; daughters Jennifer Suttle (Sam) of Savannah, GA, Marcy Eaker (Chris) of Charlotte, NC, Leslie Houser (Daniel) of Vale, NC; eleven grandchildren, Maggie Suttle, Sam Suttle, Jr. (Heather), Stuart Suttle, Hannah Dedmon, Chaney Dedmon, Rachel Dedmon, Zach Eaker, Alec Eaker, Trey Houser (Haley), Tanner Boltin (Faith), Grace Anna Houser; two great-grandchildren, Callaway Boltin and Jacakson Suttle; and special caregivers, Susan Mead Delinsky, Johnatha Lopez, and Lois Norman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Boger City United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Reese and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Catawba Valley Regional Hospice House, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658; The Sportsman’s Club of Lincolnton; The Alzheimer’s Foundation; or Boger City United Methodist Church.
